A very typical Cull with leaden sky and angry sea.  It is very finely detailed and shows the cruiser wearing a rear-admiral’s flag.

Built at Devonport 1904-1907. Fitted with a temporary flight runway over focsle May 1912, from which Commander C R Samson made the first sea plane flight from a British warship.   August 1914, 3rd Battle Squadron, Grand Fleet.  November 1915 transferred to Dardanelles as Admiral Freemantle’s flagship  Nore accommodation ship 1919.  Broken up 1921.
