HMS ABERCROMBIE (A/Captain G.V.B. Faulkner RN) was supporting the Salerno landing when on 9 September 1943 she drifted onto a mine and was damaged amidships.  Fears that use of her main armament would further weaken her, she was stood down from the gunline and made her way to Toronto dockyard.  A year later she was again mined (off Malta) and after further repairs she was en route for the Far East (in Aden dockyard) when VJ Day was announced.  She was scrapped in 1954.
