Even for Cull, this is a masterpiece of draughtsmanship and atmosphere with the flash and smoke from a full broadside from HMS MARLBOROUGH and the other ships of the Squadron.  Very finely detailed and of historic importance – a rare treasure because Cull seldom painted ships in action.

HMS MARLBOROUGH was built in Devonport January 1912 to June 1914.  Home Fleet First Battle Squadron to December 1914.  Torpedoed at Jutland and repaired on the Tyne in three months.  Mediterranean 1919-1926.  Black Sea Ops. Atlantic Fleet 1926-29.  Stricken under Washington Treaty.  Sold May 1932.
