The Isle of Wight - "A Passing Shower"

Although an early Cull (1908 when he was 28 years old) his familiar style is already apparent: carefully observed topography and beautifully captured colours and light in his sea and sky. It is definitely showery weather with white horses temporarily whipped up as the wind freshens ahead of the rain, fleeting cloud shadows racing across the Solent,  and a fitful patch of sun briefly lighting the scene before another shower approaches fast.
